The Blackhorse Association, Inc. presents a treasured item from the history of our beloved regiment: the 1959 Yearbook of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment.
This riveting publication documents the regiment when it was stationed in West Germany during the Cold War. In 1959, the regiment was in defense of freedom at the West German-Czechoslovakian Border in the cities of Straubing, Landshut, and Regensburg. Through the use of a compelling historical narrative accompanied by captivating photos of the troopers and their units, the 1959 Yearbook is a must-read publication for those of us who remain in awe of the 11th Cavalry, its history, its veterans, and current troopers.
All proceeds from the sales of this Yearbook will benefit the Association’s scholarship fund, which provides annual scholarships to college students who have close relatives who served in the 11th Cavalry.

We thank Gary Kocher for donating his grandfather’s Yearbook to us so that we could keep its memory alive by digitizing it and arranging for its printed publication. Gary’s grandfather – Harold E. Stiger – was a trooper with the regiment in 1959. MSG Stiger served once more with the regiment in L Troop during 1966–1967 in Vietnam; he died on February 7, 1967 while assigned to the regiment.
We also acknowledge the late Colonel (Ret.) Glenn Snodgrass, who as the former President of the Blackhorse Association, was instrumental in launching the association’s digital archives project. At the end of this Yearbook, we include a biography to honor Glenn’s memory and leadership.
