In early April 1981, Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger was hosted by the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment as he visited the East-West German Border. He climbed the steps into the tower at OP Alpha and, in his words, viewed the “prison wall” that kept the East German people locked inside their workers’ paradise. |

Michael Shannon Butler, a cherished son, brother, and friend, was called to his eternal home on January 23, 2026, in San Angelo, Texas, at the age of 53. Born on June 2, 1972, in Johnson City, Texas, to Elizabeth Parker and Jimmy Frasier, Michael grew into a man of strong faith and unwavering patriotism, touching the lives of all who knew him. Michael attended Lake View High School, where his vibrant personality and keen intellect shone brightly. After graduation, he dedicated himself to the service of his country, enlisting in the US Army. He served in Germany with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in A Troop, 1st Squadron as a cavalry scout. His deployment during Operation Desert Storm was a period of profound pride and honor, and he spoke of his experiences with humility and patriotism. Upon returning to civilian life, Michael discovered his calling as a taxidermist, an art form through which he expressed his deep appreciation for nature’s beauty. His award-winning creations were more than just work; they were a testament to his love of art and his desire to capture the essence of the wild. Michael’s passion for the outdoors was not confined to his professional life. An avid hunter and fisherman, he traversed the globe in pursuit of adventure, always respecting the environment he cherished so deeply. His extensive knowledge of the outdoors and taxidermy was a gift he enjoyed sharing, particularly with children, inspiring the next generation with his enthusiasm and expertise. Michael’s Christian faith was the cornerstone of his life, guiding him in his daily walk and providing comfort and strength. His love of God was evident in his actions and his dedication to his family and friends. His sense of humor, loving nature, and passionate spirit were infectious, and he brought joy and laughter to every gathering. He leaves behind a loving family who will continue to honor his legacy: his mother, Elizabeth Parker; his father, Jimmy Frasier; his sister, Teena Adney and her husband Rick; his brothers, Steve Butler and his wife Leslie, and Kyle Frasier; along with numerous nieces and nephews, six great-nieces and nephews, and his very dear friend, Josh Allen, and the Allen family. Each of these individuals played a significant role in his life, and the bond they shared with Michael was one of profound love and mutual respect. Michael’s journey on this earth was a testament to the enduring power of faith, the importance of family, and the impact one person can have through a life well-lived. As we bid farewell to Michael Shannon Butler, we celebrate a life that was full of purpose, joy, and an unquenchable zest for the beauty of God’s creation. We take solace in the knowledge that he rests now in the arms of our Lord, and we look forward to the day when we shall meet again in the glory of Heaven. |
Leonard Wallace Carlson, November 16, 1945 – December 23, 2025 passed away at Riverside, California. Leonard served with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Vietnam during 1969 – 1970. No further details about his services were found. |
Ronald Jack Littleton was born in Texarkana, Texas on March 5, 1949 to Jack and Doris Littleton. He went to be with the Lord Jesus Christ, as he was surrounded by his family, on February 23, 2026, in Redlick, Texas. He was a Christian, having received Jesus as His Lord and Savior at the age of 73, and he was an avid supporter of the ministry of Oasis Life Church of Texarkana. While living in Alabama on the family ranch, Mr. Littleton met the beautiful and charming Peggy Lucille O’Neal. For decades following their first encounter, he bragged about her go-go boots. Remember this was the 1960s! He married the love of his life, “my everything,” Peggy, on December 26, 1970. From 1968 to 1974, Mr. Littleton served his country as a highly decorated member of the United States Army. As a soldier, he served with valor and distinction as a member of the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment, often referred to as the Blackhorse Regiment, in Vietnam in 1968 – 1969 in the Iron Triangle area. He was a crew commander of an M48 Patton Tank. On one occasion, he was promoted by Colonel Patton while deployed in combat. He ended his military career with the rank of Sergeant. Mr. Littleton enjoyed a long career in medical technology with Smith and Nephew Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee. He made the first Genesis Total Knee Replacement, which was deemed to be highly transformational with its development. He was also responsible for building a vena cava clip that saved the life of President Richard Nixon. Mr. Littleton loved his family, and this deepened as the years passed. Each one was given a beloved nickname that brought both laughter and a sense of personal connection. He was a loyal Ford man and loved to crappie and bass fish, as well as ride his cherished Harley Davidson that he called Burtha. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Doris Littleton, a great grandson, Brantley James “Boogie” Crouch, and a cousin, Peggy “Cuzette” White. Those who mourn his passing include his beloved wife, Peggy, daughter Shannon Montgomery (Tim), his son, Richard Littleton (Sherry), his daughter Vandy Littleton and his son, Robert Littleton (Britney); his grandchildren Brynson Crouch (Kylie), Trindon Crouch (Christina), Dalton Crouch (Cali), Payton Crouch, Ridge Littleton (Emily), Harley Littleton (Austin), Riddick Littleton, Zoey Littleton, Keira Littleton, Gavin Crouch (Megan), Hatley Crouch, and Baileyann Bates (Colton), along with 25 great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry “Sissy” Stevenson, brother, Ricky Littleton (Kate), and cousins George White, and Cory and Melody White.
