BG (Ret.) Thomas E. White, Jr. passed away December 10, 2024 after a lengthy illness. Tom commanded troops with great distinction at every level from armored cavalry platoon through regiment, including three tours with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment. He later continued his service to his country as the Secretary of the Army.

From June 1968 to May 1969, Tom was the Platoon Leader, M Company, 3/11 ACR; and later he served as Troop Commander of K Troop, 3/11 ACR — both while in Vietnam. From June 1979 to June 1981, he was the 11th’s Regimental S-3 (Operations Officer) and then the Regimental Executive Officer. Then from June 1981 to June 1983, he commanded 1st Squadron, 11th ACR. From June 1986 to June 1988, Tom commanded the Regiment.
